You can go into a $125/hour studio with a $100,000 mixing board and $10,000 mics and still not get as good a recording as you'll get at Bigger Than Huge. The equipment can't record the music itself. The engineer must know what he's doing; and he must care. A $10,000 microphone placed incorrectly will not sound as good as an SM57 placed correctly. An instrument equalized incorrectly on a $100,000 mixing board will not sound as good as an instrument equalized correctly on a $3000 Mackie.
